[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. The scripture reading for today is recorded in the book of John chapter 15 verse 13. And these are well-known words that oftentimes are quoted, oftentimes are preached on. This is what it says, Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

[00:00:27] Okay? Who was that someone? It was Jesus Christ. And why is that? We don't have the ability, we have the inability to live a sinless life. We have an inability to keep the commands of God. We have an inability to put ourselves right with God. But Jesus had all the ability. He had the ability to carry our sin and make it his own and die in our place on the cross.

[00:00:54] He had the ability to take on the wrath of God as our substitute. He had the ability to experience hell on that cross in our place. He had the ability to experience an excruciatingly painful death on the cross to win salvation for us. Why is that? Because he loves us. And we are his friends. And he laid down his life on the cross for we, his friends.

[00:01:23] Why? Because great and vast and wide and never ending is the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. You know, I'm a great patriot. I love the United States. And especially I love the freedoms we enjoy here in the United States. And these words, greater love has no man than he that lays down his life for his friends.

[00:01:48] I think of veterans down through the last hundred years who laid down their life for the love of their friends. Feli countrymen here in the United States. Why did they do that? Because they love America and they loved people in this country. And were willing to lay their life on the line in order for us to have the freedoms we enjoy to this very day. Thanks be to God.

[00:02:14] But at the greatest sacrifice of all was rendered on Calvary's cross. And the great love that God has for each and every one of us was manifested through Jesus, our friend. He loved us so much. He laid his life down for we, his friends. Therefore, we love him. We obey him. We serve him. We live for him each and every day. Why?

[00:02:43] Because greater love has no man than he that lays down his life for his friends. We're his friends. He laid down his life for us. Thanks be to God. And that is today's Daily Truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for tuning in to Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Pastor Dave Ahlman is the pastor of Mount Hope Church in Boulder, Colorado.
