How Do We Know the Gospel is True? | Matthew 23:33-34

[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. The Resurrection of Jesus lived to tell about it and to write about it and pass it on to generations that would follow. That's why we have the Gospels, that's why we have the Epistles, they were written by

[00:00:40] people who are eyewitnesses to what Jesus did. That's why we can believe in the authenticity of the Word and the accuracy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Right? Yes, that's right. But there's a third reason. And here it is, the martyrdom of the saints.

[00:00:57] Here's the thing, people that died for the faith or were flawed or were persecuted for the faith would not have been flawed or died or been crucified unless those things actually happened. We pick up Matthew chapter 23 and this is Jesus talking to the Pharisees and scribes and

[00:01:16] sad you see as well about what their perception was of things that were going to happen in the future. And they didn't think that they could stoop this level. We're not only the prophets in the Old Testament, we're killed because of what they profess.

[00:01:30] But now the Pharisees sad you see as a scribes, we're going to martyr the saints, we're going to kill Jesus, crucify Jesus and kill those who profess His name. Listen to what Jesus says in verse 33, use serpents, he's talking to the Pharisees

[00:01:45] scribes and sad you see, you serpents, you brew to vipers. How are your youth escape being sentenced to hell? Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and

[00:01:59] crucify and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town. They kill Jesus, they crucified Jesus. They killed 11 of the 12 apostles of our Lord Jesus. They flog Peter and Paul and John right?

[00:02:19] And they went from town to town, Paul did or before he became a Christian, saw dead, went from town to town, apprehending Christians, throwing them in prison, overseeing their desk like you did at the death of the stoning of Stephen.

[00:02:31] So you see what Jesus is saying here actually happened. Now I said this before and I want to say it again. These folks who are eyewitnesses to all the Jesus did is miracles. His death, his resurrection, his ascension into heaven.

[00:02:47] But they've been willing to be flogged and murdered and in some cases crucified, where we know Peter was crucified upside down. Would they have been willing to do that for a lie? Absolutely not.

[00:03:00] My friends, this is why we believe in the authenticity of the word, the accuracy of the eyewitnesses accounts of what Jesus did. This another peg in our belt telling us that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true.

[00:03:17] And so if you ever have doubts and everybody does, think about this, the prophecies that were fulfilled in the life of Jesus, the eyewitness accounts of those who saw the things that he did, but also the willingness of those who eyewitness the life of

[00:03:31] Jesus who are willing to be flogged and persecuted and in some cases killed for the sake of the gospel. They wouldn't have done that for a lie. And this is why we can believe in the accuracy of the events of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
