[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:08] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths.

[00:00:11] I got to talk about this because it's really kind of a peppy of mine, but if you ever

[00:00:18] met somebody that brags about their kids all the time and you just kind of avoid them

[00:00:24] because you don't want to hear about it because you know they're going to brag about

[00:00:27] this accomplishment and that accomplishment.

[00:00:30] And you can stand about two minutes of it, but that's about it.

[00:00:34] It never is a good look to brag about our kids or rarely is it a good look.

[00:00:39] Now I've been prone to brag and we just finished March Madness isn't that right?

[00:00:44] And so I filled out a bracket and in the first two days out of our family there's like

[00:00:50] eight of us participating.

[00:00:51] I was in first place.

[00:00:52] And so I texted my family members who are participating and I said in case you haven't

[00:00:57] noticed it, not to brag.

[00:01:00] But I'm in first place.

[00:01:03] And my daughter Ru said whenever he used the phrase not to brag, it means that bragging

[00:01:09] is ready to follow.

[00:01:13] That is so true.

[00:01:15] Talk about bragging.

[00:01:17] Oh my goodness.

[00:01:19] This is one of the craziest statements in all of scripture that I'm going to be reading

[00:01:24] to you today.

[00:01:25] Zebedee's mother, there's Zebedee's wife James and John's mother comes to Jesus and she

[00:01:33] has this unbelievable request.

[00:01:36] Now think about it.

[00:01:37] She thought a lot of her sons.

[00:01:38] I mean you know they're in the inner circle Peter James and John two of the three most

[00:01:44] beloved disciples.

[00:01:45] You know, and so she thought man they're pretty great.

[00:01:49] They're pretty respected.

[00:01:51] Look at how Jesus feels about them.

[00:01:53] I mean I'm pretty proud of them.

[00:01:55] And so I've got a request that I want to make to Jesus.

[00:01:58] So we pick it up in verse 20.

[00:02:00] Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons.

[00:02:05] Boys come over here.

[00:02:06] I don't know if they had any idea what she was going to ask.

[00:02:10] Hey boys come over here.

[00:02:11] I want to ask the master something with your presence too.

[00:02:15] I'm so okay.

[00:02:18] Mealing before him she asked him for something and he said there what do you want?

[00:02:23] Can't you imagine Jesus just saying what do you want?

[00:02:26] I'm here to listen.

[00:02:27] Okay, what do you want?

[00:02:28] She said to him say that these two sons of mine are to sit one at your right hand and

[00:02:34] one at your left in your kingdom.

[00:02:39] My sons are great.

[00:02:41] They're greater than all the other disciples even Peter.

[00:02:45] I mean, I have a vision for them.

[00:02:47] You're the son of God and savor the world.

[00:02:49] You're going to sit on a throne most high.

[00:02:51] And when you come back they should sit on a throne with you.

[00:02:54] I mean they're awesome.

[00:02:56] I love my sons.

[00:02:57] I want the best for them.

[00:02:59] They're great.

[00:03:00] Hey everybody come here and see how great my kids are.

[00:03:06] I'm sorry I'm going off on this.

[00:03:08] Here's the application folks point number one.

[00:03:13] It's rarely if ever a good look to brag about your kids.

[00:03:19] Okay, it just doesn't look good because you're elevating your kids above other people's

[00:03:23] kids and they're fallible in air pro how come we never talk about our kids mistakes

[00:03:28] very often because we want people to think the best of them and in the process the best

[00:03:33] of us.

[00:03:34] And so when you're around somebody who brags about their kids all the time, is that a good

[00:03:39] look that you have upon them?

[00:03:40] Probably not.

[00:03:41] So it's never a good look or rarely a good look to brag about your kids.

[00:03:46] Number two, any good that they accomplish is Christ in them.

[00:03:51] It's not just them.

[00:03:53] It's Jesus in them.

[00:03:55] It's the spirit empowering them.

[00:03:56] So any good they accomplish academically or athletically or character wise, it's Christ

[00:04:02] in them.

[00:04:03] So give him the glory.

[00:04:05] Number three, let them determine their own vision.

[00:04:09] So many times we as parents say I think you ought to be this or I think you ought to do that

[00:04:13] or I think you ought to follow in my footsteps boy, I've been guilty of that too.

[00:04:17] We all are right but let their vision be their own vision not your vision for them and finally

[00:04:23] number four.

[00:04:25] If you're going to brag about anything, brag about the accomplishments of God in your life

[00:04:31] especially the cross and empty tomb.

[00:04:34] St. Paul said that if anybody is going to boast, let them boast in the Lord.

[00:04:39] There you go.

[00:04:40] Those four points I hope you can remember and you can live by and oh yes and by the way,

[00:04:46] let me brag about my five kids to you.

[00:04:50] No they realize their fallible air prone, sinful people in need of God's grace and any

[00:04:57] good they accomplish is because of Jesus.

[00:05:03] That is today's daily truth.

[00:05:05] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
