[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. I love my wife. We've been married for 47 years and we do all kinds of things together. We love to travel together. We love camping together. We love baseball together. We love going to our grandkids events together. I mean, we love spending time together, gardening together. I mean, we have so much in common and I can't wait. When I get to heaven, we're going to be married into eternity.
[00:00:30] We're going to have kids and grandkids and all that kind of stuff and procreate in heaven and we're going to be married in heaven forever. I mean, that's what we say, you know, love forever, right? And so you're going to be saying, well, really, pastor, is there marriage in heaven? No, there's not. My wife and I are not going to be married in heaven. And yes, you know, am I going to miss that? I don't think so. Do you know why? Because Jesus said that our exaltation, our focus, our worship, our
[00:01:00] direction, our faith is rooted in Christ Jesus, and he's going to be our all in all. Now, remember the Sadducees thought that there was no resurrection. And so Jesus, to emphasize that there is a resurrection, but also to emphasize that there's no marriage in heaven, because that's a silly scenario that the Sadducees brought before Jesus, a woman who marries and that husband dies and next husband dies and next husband dies. Who's she going to be married to in heaven?
[00:01:29] Well, they were trying to trick Jesus. They didn't believe in the resurrection and they didn't believe in marriage in heaven, right? And so Jesus answers them by saying this in verse 30 of Matthew chapter 22. Listen to this.
[00:01:41] For in the resurrection, therefore, Jesus is saying there's a resurrection. For in the resurrection, in other words, when I come back in the resurrection, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
[00:01:54] Now, this doesn't mean that when we die, we're going to be angels. It's like one person told me, oh, if anybody has angels wings now, it's so and so because they were such a good person.
[00:02:04] A, we're not saved by our works. And B, when we die and go to heaven, we don't have angel wings. We're not angels, right?
[00:02:13] Okay, so what's this saying? There's no marriage in heaven. There's no procreation in heaven. Unlike what the Mormons believe, we don't go to our own celestial kingdom, have many wives and many babies and all kind of stuff.
[00:02:24] That's simply not the case. So what's heaven going to be like then? It's going to be awesome because we are the bridegroom, namely the church followers of Jesus are the bride and Jesus is the bridegroom.
[00:02:39] He's the one who's going to come and take us home. And when he takes us home, he will be our full desire, our exaltation, our worship, our attention, our direction, our focus, our faith will be fully rooted in him.
[00:02:53] Obviously, we're going to have a face to face encounter with him. We're going to live in his presence forever.
[00:02:58] We as the church, the bride will be married to the bridegroom, Jesus, and he will be our all in all.
[00:03:06] I love what Steve Green says in that song, God and God alone. He says this, he will be our one desire.
[00:03:14] Our hearts will never tire of God or Christ and God or Christ alone.
[00:03:21] And so our whole focus, our whole worship, our whole attention will be directed and focused fully on the Lord Jesus Christ.
[00:03:31] Now, here's the thing. Sometimes people say, well, will we be with our loved ones in heaven?
[00:03:37] Can I be sure that when I get to heaven, I'm going to see Uncle Paul and Cousin Jane and my parents and all that kind of stuff?
[00:03:44] I do believe we're going to be reunited with our loved ones.
[00:03:47] The Old Testament says when somebody dies, he went to be with his father.
[00:03:51] So that seems to indicate that we are reunited with those who have gone before us.
[00:03:56] But is that going to be what heaven is all about? Just that reuniting with our loved ones who have gone before us?
[00:04:02] No. Again, our attention is going to be on Jesus.
[00:04:05] Listen to what St. Paul said near the end of his life in the book of Philippians.
[00:04:10] He said, I have a desire to depart and go and be with my loved ones.
[00:04:15] Is that what he said?
[00:04:17] No.
[00:04:18] He said, I have a desire to depart and be with Christ for me to live as Christ.
[00:04:26] But to die is even better because I'm going to be with Christ.
[00:04:29] What did Jesus say to the penitent thief?
[00:04:32] Remember, the penitent thief looked at Jesus, had his faith rooted in Jesus, believed he was the son of God.
[00:04:38] And remember, he said, remember me when you come into your kingdom.
[00:04:40] Then what did Jesus say?
[00:04:42] Verily, I say to you today, you'll be with me in paradise.
[00:04:44] So being in heaven, primarily our focus is to be with Jesus.
[00:04:50] And here Jesus tells the Sadducees, there's no marriage in heaven.
[00:04:54] You don't become angels with wings in heaven.
[00:04:58] You're simply exalting and praising and lifting up the name of God when you get to heaven.
[00:05:04] And he will be our all in all.
[00:05:06] So that's our focus.
[00:05:08] That's our attention.
[00:05:09] And that's today's daily truth.
[00:05:11] I hope that this helped to clarify some things.
[00:05:14] Now, don't get me wrong, folks.
[00:05:15] I love my wife.
[00:05:16] I said that beginning, the beginning.
[00:05:18] I love her.
[00:05:19] She's she's my best friend.
[00:05:21] I would love it if I were married to her in heaven.
[00:05:23] But again, I'm not going to miss marriage because Jesus is going to be my focus and attention.
[00:05:30] Right.
[00:05:30] And you can say the very same thing.
[00:05:32] So let that kind of resonate and sink in.
[00:05:36] Make the most of your if you're married, make the most of your marriage now, because when we get to heaven, we're not going to be married.
[00:05:42] We're going to be married.
[00:06:12] We'll be right back.
