[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily, This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman
[00:00:08] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths.
[00:00:10] A lot of people want God to do certain things for them like make their problems go away
[00:00:15] and crunch out evil.
[00:00:18] It was the same thing in Jesus' day.
[00:00:22] They expected the Messiah to come when he came to take away their problems and to crunch
[00:00:26] out evil to destroy the Roman government and establish peace on earth.
[00:00:32] But that's not why Jesus came.
[00:00:34] We know that he came as a sin-bearer and peace-giver, bearing our sin on the cross and giving us
[00:00:40] peace and reconciliation with God.
[00:00:43] And so knowing that makes an incredible difference.
[00:00:47] Now why were there so many people, we've been talking about Palm Sunday the last few
[00:00:51] days, why were there so many people lining the city streets of Jerusalem when Jesus
[00:00:55] came into town?
[00:00:57] Because just a few days before then, in a little town by the name of Bethany, two miles
[00:01:03] outside the city walls of Jerusalem, guess what Jesus did?
[00:01:07] He raised Lazarus from the dead.
[00:01:10] Now word travels fast, right?
[00:01:13] Especially when only two miles away somebody's been raised from the dead and people could
[00:01:17] go to see for themselves this guy who was dead for four days now is alive.
[00:01:22] Well people were saying this has got to be the Messiah and he's going to do two things.
[00:01:27] Number one, take away our problems and crunch out the evil Roman government.
[00:01:32] But what does it say in the book of Zechariah that was fulfilled on the day of Palm Sunday?
[00:01:38] This is what it says about Jesus.
[00:01:40] This is Matthew chapter 21 verse 5 and again this is a quote from the book of Zechariah.
[00:01:47] Think about that yesterday.
[00:01:48] Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold your king is coming to you.
[00:01:54] Humble and mounted on a donkey and on a colt the foal of a donkey.
[00:01:59] Let's take those words apart.
[00:02:01] Behold the king comes to you.
[00:02:05] First of all the word behold means let me get your attention.
[00:02:09] Take a look at this.
[00:02:11] This is something you've never seen before.
[00:02:13] Behold let me get your attention.
[00:02:16] Take a look at this.
[00:02:17] So behold your king, namely the king not only the king of the Jews, the king of the Gentiles
[00:02:24] but the king of the entire universe.
[00:02:26] We say that Jesus is the king of kings and Lord of lords.
[00:02:32] So behold let me get your attention.
[00:02:34] The king, the king of all kings is coming.
[00:02:38] Now it's interesting that it says here he's coming.
[00:02:41] He's not sitting up in heaven waiting for people to come to him.
[00:02:44] He's coming to planet earth.
[00:02:46] And why did he do that?
[00:02:48] To save us.
[00:02:49] So behold the king is coming and then who's he coming to according to this?
[00:02:53] To you.
[00:02:54] So the people of God that lined the city streets of Jerusalem that day, indeed Jesus
[00:03:00] was coming for them but indeed they didn't know exactly what kind of messianic rule
[00:03:07] he would establish.
[00:03:08] He came not to crunch out the Roman government, not to take away people's problems and my
[00:03:13] friends that's what we need to remember now too.
[00:03:17] Jesus didn't come to solve all our problems and to take away all our difficulties and
[00:03:21] crunch out any government in the world that's oppressive like the Chinese, like the Russian
[00:03:28] government and it seems like more and more like the United States government.
[00:03:32] That's not why Jesus came.
[00:03:34] Jesus came to set us free from the guilt power and punishment of sin and he did
[00:03:39] the same thing for the people that lined the city streets of Jerusalem that day.
[00:03:44] So here's the thing, as I said before Jesus came as a sin bearer, bearing our sin on the
[00:03:50] cross and a peace giver bringing reconciliation between us and God.
[00:03:56] This is why he came.
[00:03:58] So I want to conclude this little message today by saying this, the king, okay, behold
[00:04:06] Yep, let me get your attention.
[00:04:07] Behold the king, the king of kings and Lord of lords is coming.
[00:04:11] He's come already to you and how wonderful it is that he came not bearing a sword but
[00:04:19] bearing peace, bringing peace with one another in the body of Christ and peace with God
[00:04:26] so that someday we will behold his face.
[00:04:29] We will see him as he is.
[00:04:31] We will share in his glory.
[00:04:33] We will shine like the sun.
[00:04:35] We will be in his presence and behold when Christ comes back to take us home we can say
[00:04:41] behold the king is coming to us.
[00:04:45] Thanks be to God.
[00:04:47] And that is today's Daily Truth.
[00:04:49] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
